I Did. Prior to 1918 ..lime sulphur was main recommendation against scale , then in 1918-19 season saw scale major outbreak in Illinois US. and reports suggested a resistance development for lime sulphur... in 1922 new studies found oil as far more effective control .and oil recommendations started to follow up... i got dozens of documents prior to 1918 .. I am still on read. and also lime sulphur has toxicity issues..
Lime sulfur is a mixture of calcium hydroxide and sulfur. In horticultural dormant sprays, lime sulfur is usually mixed with an oil, like mineral oil, to make it stick to plant surfaces. These horticultural oil sprays contain a high concentration of lime sulfur that is only safe to use on plants that are dormant because the sulfur can burn leaf tissues.
Lime sulfur can also be mixed in much weaker concentration with water for use when plants have leafed out. Even in lower concentrations and diluted with water, it is important not to spray lime sulfur on plants during hot, sunny days, as the sulfur can cause sunscald on plants.
With warnings like this, you may wonder is lime sulfur safe? When used properly, lime sulfur is a safe and effective treatment of fungal diseases such as:
I had serious scale couple of years back ..i did caustic soda for two years in a row ..and saw visible improvement s..this year I m back on oil.. plus mulching mats reduced water related stress issue. so every thing is going good right now ...lets see what will happen next...
yes .. caustic soda is not that effective on fruit scale .working method of oil and caustic soda is different . oil stays and control for a log period, caustic soda burns whats there on that time .. for older scale it work. i had trees with absolutely stunned growth with very high scale infestation... i used oil this year... but if i ll saw infestation increase on trees i will go for caustic soda again ...
Sir i hail for nirmand and people here have orchards since 80s and only few percentage of people are doing things in a right way I didn't know anything about horticulture but because of talk apple I knew lot of stuff like how fertilizers, fungicides, insecticides work... Many topics about diseases and pests are being discussed here again and again And i think it helps me to control diseases in my orchard..
No Repeated dose ! Did potassium on feb not after that ! Also did calitech on petalfall for micronutrients ! Horticulture deptt says that these are because of aphids sucking chlorophyll do malathion ! But aphids can't be seen even through lens ! Should i go for insecticide or tonic spray !?
